A Song for every morning: Dedication and defiance with St Patrick's Breastplate, John Davies. Canterbury, 2008, £9.99. A Song for every morning is a morning celebration, a chorus of confidence as we get ready to meet the challenges of each ne day. Today is never just a repetition of yesterday. It brings its own opportunities, possibilities and dangers that will come at s from without and within. As we dedicate this new day to Christ, we clam the equipment of God's truth and holiness; we put it on as our protection as we face the hours ahead. The Breastplate - its very name suggests defiance - sets out a vast range of resources that are ready for our use as we set out on our daily Christian pilgrimage. With its simple directness, it is an ideal devotion for those who have recently made a new commitment to Christ, while at the same time it has a wealth of deep meaning to nurture those who have been pilgrims for many years.

Do nothing to change your life: Discovering what happens hen you stop, Stephen Cottrell. Church House, 2008, £6.99. When was the last time you had a real day off? Most of us live at break-neck speed. Busy lives - work, family, friends, endless tasks - leave us with little time to sleep, never mind stopping and reflecting. In this generous, life-affirming book, full of practical wisdom, Cottrell invites us to slow down and stop . . . and breathe. Start an adventure of self-discovery, play and renewed creativity that will improve the way you see the life and help you catch a glimpse of God.

Dancing with God: Transformation through relationship, Irene Alexander. SPCK, 2007, £9.99. Down-to-earth, engaging and psychologically astute, Dancing with God takes us 'inside' the gospel stories, allowing us to explore these ideas through imagining ourselves in the presence of Jesus. What was it like to be the woman at the well, meeting this unique stranger? Or the woman criticized and unvalued, washing Jesus' feet with her tears? Or like Paul, having your entire, carefully ordered world turned upside down? As we envision the freedom and grace in which these individuals were invited to live, we may learn to forget the childhood scripts, the rules, requirements and laws that bind us. Instead, we might allow ourselves to step out and dance with our creator - to be transformed, gently and continuously through the all-encompassing love of Christ.

The Book of Mary, Nicola Slee. SPCK, 2007, £10.99. In The Book of Mary's reflections, prayers and poems, Nicola Slee shares something of he own journey with Mary: a journey of both ambivalence and attraction, identification and protest. In playful and experimental as well as thoughtful ways, Mary is presented in many voices and guises - some of them traditional, many of them surprising and new. Ten chapters explore Mary's faith and daring, her solitude and freedom, her companionship and sisterhood, her sexuality and body, her authority, her ministry and priesthood, her pain, her resistance and refusal, her hiddenness and identity. The book is a resource for groups seeking women's understanding of themselves, individuals seeking material for prayer and reflection, corporate worship and liturgy.

Waiting, Chris Leonard. SPCK, 2008, £8.99. Possibly one of the most difficult things to come to terms with in life is the sheer amlunt of waiting involved: it is not always easy to feel loved by God as we hang on in there, day after day, wondering of things will ever work out. Both comfort and encouragement may be found in this absorbng book, which weaves together reflections on the Bible, prayers and real-life stories. God wants a grown-up relationship with ech one of us, and it's best that he sets the pace and rhythm. Too often we rish ahead, wasting time and energy in worry.
